This mushroom fruits on wood chip beds or woody debris from April to mid June but they occasionally fruit as late as November. It was first documented in Pennsylvania. But has since spread like wildfire and has been found in Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland, West Virgina, New York, British Columbia, New Jersey, California, and Oregon to name a few.
